Bard's Tale IV - Review @ COG

I really suspect it's what I mentioned before - they have a certain range of skiils in these small studios, but not the hardcore bearded wisemen of old, who would feel confident ripping out the level-loading code and tuning it up.
Yep and that's a damn shame. :brood:

I still remember the mod for PoE 2 that tried to fixed loading & stuttering.

Plus there's the small matter of development time. You can't go to a kickstarter and ask for more time/money, as you would with a traditional publisher. You really don't have the luxury to go in and hire someone to reinvent the wheel if something doesn't work to your specifications.

Yes, that's certainly a factor in some cases.

I'm just thinking about one large company that I worked for. When you entered the I.T. department, you would first encounter The Developers, who tinkered with UIs and Visual Basic, liked Simpsons figurines, and were quite friendly. Then, as you advanced to the deeper levels, there were The Programmers, who liked beards, maths problems, and never being disturbed. Occasionally, if there was any talk of code going out in a less than optimal state, they would stage a minor uprising.

A lot of these indies strike me as not having enough of those geezers.
