New glasses for when I'm sitting at the computer. I'd noticed that I tended to flex my neck backwards more and more in order to see what's on my monitors sharply. Which caused headaches.
So a tête-à-tête with my optician (or rather her machinery) was in order. Got my new glasses today, and they work flawlessly. A pleasant side effect is that these glasses distort what I see a bit differently than my old ones. So my nice 27" monitors appear larger. So now I don't have to buy 29" monitors after all. Ahh, saved me a lot of money.
pibbur who since everything 75 cm away is clear as ink now, probably has no excuse for typos
PS. As everyone who wear glasses know, they do distort what you see, the degree depends on the strength and the quality of the glasses. The brain is very good at adjusting, however so you soon get used to it. But if it's been a while since you got new ones, the difference can be quite noticable for a couple of days. Many years ago, when I was around 16 I was in a boat, fishing. A couple of mosquitos got annoyingly close, so I struck at them which made them go away. Unfortunately so did my glasses. My new glasses were significantly stronger than my lost ones, so for a while I had slight, but noticable trouble walking, because the ground was never where my eyes told me.
A more pleasant surprise was many years later, when I one day sat at the cafeteria at work and noticed that they had got bigger coffee cups. How nice, more coffee for the same price. Then I noticed that every coffee bar had got bigger cups. Yes, I had just got new glasses. DS.
PPS. Those of you who has (have?) been married to/living with a female for some years, have no doubt observed that they tend to have opinions on what you wear, and they also tend to make that opinion very explicit. My wife for instance always bothers me whenever I go out to buy trousers, wanting me to get me something more fitting. I've told her repeatedly that I don't know what that means. As long as they have 3 holes, I manage to put them on. I'm not stupid - I wouldn't buy them otherwise.
She also used to say that I ought to get myself new glasses. Eventually, after 10 years I succumbed and did as she told me to. BTW, those were the same glasses that enlarged the coffee cups. In addition they made everything sharper, so I noticed that she had got several wrinkles that I somehow had managed to overlook. Being the honest person that I am, I of course informed her about that. She has never troubled me with glasses-related comments since then. And, she has also adviced her (female) friends and colleagues never to mention glasses to their significant ones. I feel like I have finally done something good for humanity.
