Two interesting interviews with Miyazaki.

One about this expansion being their largest ever. And the other about a possible remake of Bloodborne on future hardware. I'd love it if they remade BB, as identical to the original and with new content. And also for PC. Would be the greatest thing ever.

The way they say 'new hardware' really sounds like a new console, like the PS6.
Yeah, but no way would they not also build it to run on PC. At least that's the only possible rumor now, as to what's stopping them from porting the original BB to PC. That probably the codebase is in shambles and cannot be easily ported. Similar to RDR1.

They seem to hand the Windows remake and remaster projects to other companies, maybe because they seem more interested in spending time on new games, and porting to another system requires more work (though I'm not sure it's still the case). If it's a genuine remake from scratch, though, we may see it on PC directly too.

I'm still wondering if they'll port Demon's Souls to PC eventually.

Oh, no, I listened to the eurogamer video about the interview they had with Miyazaki, and I think I've again managed to lie to myself into believing that this time Bloodborne to PC is almost certainly happening.

It's an interesting question. Afaik, Bloodborne uses the same engine as DS3 and Sekiro, so I don't understand how the codebase would be an issue.

I'd rather they ported the original than having to wait on a remake though. Assuming they do the remake Miyazaki is speculating about, we're probably looking at 5+ years away at least.

Yeah, that's the info I was under, that there's a common core between these games. It's even noticeable at the game level.

But since I assume multiple teams worked on these games in parallel, I assume that core codebase was forked and evolved differently, since BB was a console exclusive from the start and made for Sony since they own the IP, while DS was always envisioned as multiplatform. So in BB's case it's likely that the generic parts of codebase were mixed with the console specific parts, and they didn't bother keeping it clean and separate? At the point BB was made (which is almost 10 years ago) I guess they couldn't imagine that maybe at one time Sony would want it ported. It was pretty much unthinkable back then, iirc.

Anyway, I don't know. But there really isn't much else of an explanation. I've been waiting and hearing constant rumors about a BB port being in the works for 5 years now (I checked, and yeah it's been that long). And nothing so far.
From the recent Sony leak, I believe we learned that the game sold 7 million copies on PS4 or something. So they know it's seller. They already ported loads of PS exclusives that were much lower profile. There really isn't any other explanation.

EDIT: even so, this whole theory might be false. A twitter dude I've been following (Lance McDonald, https://twitter.com/manfightdragon ; he's the dude the implemented the unofficial 60fps patch for BB ) says he has no idea where this theory about a borked codebase arose. He's apparently quite against that theory.
I'm fine with that, as long as we have a better theory. And I don't see any other feasible explanation for this refusal to port it to PC.

I talk about morality systems in RPGs, often called alignment or karma meters. I talk about how I used to do them, and what my thoughts are now about how they should be implemented.

I tell some stories about Castles and Stonekeep, two games developed at Interplay in the early 90s.

I speculate on the future of games...or at least, the future I'd like to see.
