Stardew Valley is not only the best farming game I’ve played, it is one of my favorite games of all time. That myself and others keep returning to this eight-year old gem each time it gets even the smallest update speaks to how it’s truly a masterpiece in the genre it both reinvigorated and has come to define. It is chock-full of bizarre and memorable characters, moments, and conversations, not to mention a never-ending to-do list that fuels the completionist in me. It’s also an intensely strategic adventure, using its cozy farming activities and cute pixel art to make the deeply engaging time management challenge underneath it all effortlessly inviting. Stardew Valley has earned a spot on your platform of choice as a modern classic, standing proudly alongside gaming’s all-time greats. I’ve played countless hours already and will surely play countless more, because every time I boot it up, it feels like coming home.

Ever since Rise of the Ronin launched, many people have been drawing comparisons to Ghost of Tsushima due to the open world nature of the two games and similarities in setting. When Ghost of Tsushima launched, it was met with universal acclaim, and a completely baffled gaming community gushing over the graphical limitations that Sucker Punch seemed to completely demolish. In contrast, Rise of the Ronin has launched with mixed criticism from the community, with many calling it a “downgraded Ghost of Tsushima”. With Ghost of Tsushima launching on PC in just over a week, we’re going to cover why that is not the case, and how Rise of Ronin is actually a better contender than you think against the 2020 Game of the Year nomination.

Fallout 76 has come a long way since 2018, transforming into something that’s much closer to the original “Fallout with Friends” pitch that was so enticing about it. The combat, exploration, and RPG systems all feel so good that it’s easy to lose dozens of hours running around the massive map getting lost in over-the-top action. That said, this wasteland still has plenty of room to grow, as its added Expeditions are less interesting than I’d hoped for, the endgame is still a bit thin, and the inventory system seems designed to infuriate – or worse, twist your arm into paying for a real-money subscription to ease the pain. Even still, I never thought I’d return to Appalachia after my initially harrowing experience with it, but Bethesda has really put in the wrench time on this one, and I’m so glad I gave it another shot.
