You have duplicate in your 2013 list and I would add aow3 and warlock2 to 2014 even if they are tbs strategy. Also dishonored is missing from 2013; but not sure folks would consider it close enough to RPG. For strict RPG 2013 was lean.

The year 2013 looks like this:
1. Path Of Exile (who knew, since I despise MMO's, but this is good)
2. Bioshock:Infinite (Though under the sea was better than in the clouds)
3. Aarklash: Legacy
4. Shadowrun Returns
5. Van Helsing (just to make at least 5 games on the list, it was not that bad game but forgettable)
I have no other games to add…don't know does this count. Anyway, take it or leave it. :)
The year 2014 looks exciting and the list is:
1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Over excited!)
2. Eschalon: Book III (Can't wait)
3. Grim Dawn (Bring it on Titan Quest!)
4. Underrail (Ambitious & retro)
5. Lords of Xulima (Impressive)
6. Divinity: Original Sin (Divine Divinity FTW! This looks fun, should be good)
7. Blackguards (Love turn based RPG's)
8. Sui Generis (Like the physics a lot)
9. Balrum (Another Eschalon Book)
10. Dragon Age: Inquisition (hope they don't fool me with this one and they make up for what they have done to/with DA2, otherwise may the gods have mercy on their souls).

Wow, 2013 really was a weak year for RPGs. My choices:

2013:
Bioshock Infinite (My favorite of the list, not much of a RPG but love the game)
Path of Exile
Shadowrun Returns
X-Com Enemy Within
Dust An Elysian Tale
Divinity: Dragon Commander

I liked Deus Ex and Baldur's II, but given that they are re-releases, I will leave them off.

2014:
Might & Magic X
Pillars of Eternity
Dragon Age Inquisition
Divinity Original Sin
Age of Wonders 3
Witcher 3
Lords of Xulima
Child of Light
Grim Dawn
South Park

I would choose Mass Effect 4, but I'm guessing the chances of a 2014 release are extremely slim.

Top 3's…

2013:
Xcom: Enemy Within, for just sheer amount of hours I have played it— it's addicting.
Expedition: Conquistador, a decent game— and the best indie I've played.
Ok, and there wasn't a 3rd that I liked this year. Kinda sad.

2014:
Pillars of Eternity. I threw a lot of money at this project, for good reason.
Dragon Age: Inquisition. I think BioEA gets it right this time.
Witcher 3. A lot of hoopla here from the dev, which is usually a bad sign. But it looks amazing so far.

ME4 would probably be #2 on this list (assuming it's not a prequel or sidequel), but I doubt it's coming out til '15.

All of the games in played in 2013 were from earlier years. I did pick up the BGEE/BG2EE, which were decent but not spectacular. At some point I'll probably play Shadowrun Returns, Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Director's Cut, and Realms of Arkania: Blade of Destiny, but I'm in no hurry.

2014:

1. Pillars of Eternity
2. Wasteland 2
3. Divinity: Original Sin
4. Blackguards
5. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
6. Shadowrun: Dragonfall (not on the list)

and possibly:

7. Dragon Age: Inquisition
8. Ghost of a Tale
9. Underrail
10. Mass Effect "4"

Well, as almost everyone has already pointed out, man does that 2013 list suck.

2013:

1. Expeditions: Conquistador - Seems most liked not loved this game, I thought it was outstanding.

2. Card Hunter

3. XCOM: Enemy Within - good but overly simplistic.

4. Shadowrun Returns

5. Avadon 2: The Corruption - the level cap (which is not something that usually bothers me) was horrible in this game and really brought it down for me. I bet I hit the cap 2/3 of the way through and had to play a full 1/3 of the game not leveling up. I played on hard and still thought it was a touch too easy, don't understand some of the "too hard" talk I seem to recall seeing a few places.

6. Paper Sorcerer

7. Van Helsing - ehh. Fist action RPG I've played in a while. Was fun for a bit, never finished (still on my computer, I think I am near the end I just have no desire to play anymore).

2014: Now we're talking, hard to pick just ten.

Age of Decadence
Divinity: Original Sin
Knights of the Chalice II
Might & Magic X: Legacy
Pillars of Eternity
Wasteland 2
Eschalon: Book III
Dead State
The Mandate
Frayed Knights 2: The Khan of Wrath

And that's leaving off some great looking games.

Yeah, it's looking more and more like I'm not going to have a lot of disposable income beyond gaming purchases. I estimate around $800 just from these lists-- and that doesn't include the stuff I've kickstarted. May not be diving in Coz this year...

Well, the game I enjoyed most last year was FTL, but I guess most people wouldn't count it as an RPG even though it's very rogue-like. Also, it might already be from 2012, not sure on that

I've tried Divinity Dragon Commander, but didn't like it too much, not that it was a bad game or anything, I guess strategy just isn't my thing. I wouldn't have put it on an RPG list.

While I liked Shadowrun Returns, it doesn't exactly deserve a GOTY title either. Too linear, too short, no sidequests, horrible save-system. The setting was a nice. I liked it, overall, just not really a game for the ages.

Same goes for Driftmoon, I did like it, but it doesn't feel right to call it GOTY.

Beyond that, I guess I spent most of my time with adventures rather than RPGs this year, they had some really fantastic ones there. So I can't give you a list for 2013, because none of the games I played feel like they would deserve a GOTY title. I wouldn't vote for any of them.

Haven't tried yet, but am planning to play Expeditions: Conquistador, Blood Knights and Avadon 2, when I have the time.

2014 is going to be amazing, though. What I'm looking forward to mostly:

1. Mage's Initiation (their QFG2-Remake was wonderful. I expect this one to be my GOTY 2014)

2. Divinity Original Sin (a real new Divinity? It's about time. Loved every RPG in the series, Dragon Commander, not so much)

3. The Witcher 3 (First one was great. Second one also pretty good. Unfortunately, probably going to require high-end-PC, might not be playing it in 2014)

4. Wasteland 2 (Very promising, from what we've seen so far)

5. Eschalon Book 3 (FINALLY. Wikipedia says Book 2 was nearly four years ago)

and to make the list of 10 complete, I also expect something worth playing from:

6. South Park (Like it on TV. Not sure if works as a game)

7. Hero-U (The Coles are back. Could be good, story-and-writing-wise. Doubting the technical side of things, from what we heard so far. Unlikely for 2014)

8. Dragon Age 3 (the first one was nice, the second one pretty bad. Horrible combat. Great characters. Story in some parts nonsense. We'll see)

9. Pillars of Eternity (I also doubt a 2014 release. Remember how much the other Kickstarters like Wasteland 2 have been pushed back)

10. Blackguards (On one hand, Daedalic, love their adventures. On the other hand, previews not very convincing so far)

So, 2013 was kinda disappointing. I didn't really feel like it throughout the year, but in retrospect, none of the RPGs left a big impression. A meh year.

2014 will be amazing, even if only half the games deliver what they promised, it might still be one of the best years RPGs ever had.

My GoTY for 2013 was and is Skyrim, but since it came out in 2011....

2014
1. Divinity: Original Sin
2. Might and Magic X: Legacy
3. Pillars of Eternity
4. The Witcher 3 - maybe. I need modability so I don't have to play an ugly freak.
5. Grim Dawn

There are several others that I look forward to playing, but not super excited: Blackguards, DA:I, Eschalon, Underrail, etc.

As I get older, I require a certain level of graphics to really get into a game. Games that are too "retro" are always placed down in a BUT category. It was nice BUT had subpar graphics. Avadon, Eschalon, Underrail, etc, are all examples of games that I may enjoy, but will be hampered by the lack of decent graphics. As long as these games are cheap, I'll eventually pick them all up.

I have high hopes for Divinity to knock Skyrim out of my 3 years running GoTY.

I forgot about Mages Initiation :) I love the old Sierra Quest for Glory games, so I am excited about this one too. Actually, I played the demo, so its quite odd that I forgot to list the game :) I liked the puzzles, but the combat moved a bit too fast for my liking, coming off as a little too arcade-ish, but still fun overall.
