ToEE - A New Fluent Let's Play!

Well a game I can buy and play, a movie well. I can watch it, maybe make one.

So that really doesn't hammer the point home. :)

Ok, let me try again:

What's the difference between passive and (inter)active entertainment?

According to Jean Reno, you should neither watch porn nor cooking shows when you can do both of these things yourself.

And he's a movie star with a beer gut, he knows his shit.

I call bullshit on what he said ;) There are things in porn and cookery which you can't do yourself!

It's all just entertainment. I would hope that I'm being somewhat entertaining in my wild and wacky adventures. I'm learning a lot about being an entertainer and hopefully I'm getting better.

But the bottom line is it's just entertainment. Some people like watching others play a game and commentate on it. =)

That the game is made to be played and the movie is made to be watched ?

So, watching shows about dancing, cooking, sailing and so on is also invalid, because those things are only meaningful when doing them?

Do you understand the concepts of sharing and reflecting?

You can do both if you know how to use your ladle

k I'm outta here

Playing a game isn't just playing a game.

It requires:

1. Access to the game
2. Hardware and OS that can run the game
3. Game being installed
4. The surplus of mental energy to invest in it
5. The time and opportunity to play without too much interruption

Still confused? :)

sharing and reflecting

Yep, that is a big reason that I make these videos. I love sharing my gaming adventures with the community, interacting with all you guys, etc. =)

You need a snazzy intro. ;)

I do! I'll have to see what I can do. I make music so maybe I can throw something together in Movie Maker with one of my homemade beats. =)

I was only being a smartazz, I could careless if people want watch someone play video games.
I mean tons of people watch morons on TV giving other morons advise or yet again even worst locking 100 strangers in a house and lets see how they act like animals to each other for a few months and only one gets a prize.

Have any Watchers tested Co8's Keep on the Borderlands yet? I've been curious about that one. Any detailed feedback of sorts?
I helped out with most of the new map and environment content on KotB way back in the day, and the team never did stop working on it. Their final release came out last year I think. I would definitely recommend checking it out, it's a total conversion, including upgraded and improved rules, items, equipment, everything. And it's free after all.

If you play ToEE, you really do have to use the Co8 mod mentioned above.

Episode 2 is live! I start my exploration of Hommlet and start my search for the elusive Rainbow Rock and the horde of treasure waiting there! =)

Will we make it to Rainbow Rock? Heck, will we even find the Miller's house? Who knows? But we'll have a blast doing whatever we do, together! =)

Enjoy! =)

I never ever understood the point of let's plays… if you have time to watch a let's play, why not play instead? :S

I find that if you are interested in buying a game, but not sure if its really for you, a let's play can be really helpful. Also I've watched a few to get insights on character creation, but those were more like video strategy guides. Also, nice video, Fluent.

Well, I don't entirely agree with you entirely, most single player games are very straight forward experiences, there is not a lot of freedom in what you can do and how you can do it, and part of the fun in them is to find out how to do things. They are meant to be played not to be watched.

If we are talking about multiplayer games, E-sport or such then of course I understand.. not sure if those are called let's plays though.

Playing a game isn't just playing a game.

It requires:

1. Access to the game

Well, I wasn't confused in the start but now I am :)

1. You mean people who are too poor to buy the game... well fair enough, but I think they are a minority.
2. You can always get this hardware later on if you plan to play the game.
3. Well, hopefully the game installation process is not so painful that'll make people watch let plays instead of playing the game.
4. Well, if that energy is not there why watch a let's play of the same game?
5. If they don't have time to play without too much interruption, how will they have time to watch the let's play without too much interuption ?

Ok, GG, I concede there are things I simply can't explain to certain people, even when I think they're incredibly straightforward :)

Oh? I consider that a challenge....

On the other hand, I could also murder people myself, but in fact I only watch imaginary people do it on game and movie screens, so maybe it's best that I don't attempt any complicated souffles either.

I was only being a smartazz, I could careless if people want watch someone play video games.

I watch stuff like this to get an idea as to whether I'd enjoy the game or not. I don't have unlimited funds to buy everything I'm remotely interested in, so "let's play" videos help narrow that list down. That said, I watch less than 10 mins or so, and I skip ahead quite a bit. It's also great background noise when I'm doing other stuff at the desk.

My other reason for watching them is for new tactics/strategy, which obviously doesn't apply to RPGs. But when you're an XCOM junkie, or Wargame, etc— you sometimes learn some new tools for the toolbox.

Isn't it more of a video review or such you are interested in, if you want to know whatever to play a game or not, the way I see it, if you watch through a let's play series of a game, the game will not be so fun to play when you already know everything? Obviously this is not the case for strategy games either... but single player RPG's...

That I can totally understand, for strategy games to find new tactics or such.

Maybe I should have said I don't understand let's plays for single player RPG's.
